Well, it seems that one of our readers Shankar Ganesh found the answer, and was kind enough to send us the tip. He found 2 greasemonkey scripts, each for Twitter and Facebook, developed by the same person, that can help filter out unwanted tweets and Facebook updates easily. The Twitter script works only on the new Twitter version, which everyone will have sooner or later. It creates an option called “Filters” on your Twitter profile, as you can see in the screenshot below. When you click on that option, you get a box that can help you remove tweets from certain people, or remove tweets that contain words you don’t care for. Just fill the information, click apply and you get the results instantly. There is an option to filter out tweets with links too, which I think is pretty cool. Similarly, the greasemonkey script for Facebook also creates a Filter tab on your Facebook profile and helps to filter out topics you don’t want to be a part of. Overall, both these scripts could save you a lot of frustration if you find that most of the times your Twitter or Facebook stream has nothing useful. From now on, you could filter the useless stuff out in one click.
