In this post today, we will be exploring the best of Android keyboard apps that you should try in 2019.

1. Fleksy Keyboard

Bored with Gboard and Swiftkey and looking for a switch? If yes, Fleksy is the next best option to try. It bundles a lovely interface, a good prediction engine and support for multiple languages. Plus, the keys aren’t small enough to cause typos and not big enough to look ugly. Also, you can select from many single colored themes, and tweak the size of the keyboard and the spacebar. Though it doesn’t support swipe typing, what I loved about this app is that you can also search directly from the keyboard. It doesn’t use Google search engine though but has packed a new search engine called Qwant. Plus, you can also search for GIF, YouTube videos, and Stickers, without leaving the app. Download Fleksy

2. Hitap Keyboard

Hitap Keyboard is loaded with features that make it stand apart from its peers. One of its key features is the built-in clipboard and contacts. Once you permit it to import contacts, you can straightaway access all your contacts right from the keyboard. Just type the name, and the ones matching the entered text will pop right up. Another feature that makes it a must-have app is its clipboard. Apart from the standard copy-paste functionality, it lets you pin frequently used phrases. You can also copy individual words from copied phrases. That’s cool. Apart from the above two features, Hitap has a plethora of options to customize it as per your needs. When it comes to prediction, Hitap tries to predict the next word. However, you may find it a bit of an issue initially.

3. Chrooma Keyboard

Chrooma keyboard has improved a lot over the last couple of years, and now this keyboard is capable of competing with the best of the lot. The first thing you’ll notice is the keyboard adapting the color of the currently running app. Chrooma keyboard’s key strength is its smart prediction feature. You’ll have to invest a little time before it can start predicting the right word in the right context. The other interesting features of this app is its QuickBar to let you access various options such as emojis, GIFs, Clipboard, Image attachment tab, and Incognito mode. Most of the keyboard features are similar to Gboard, such as Swipe gestures, Voice typing, and One-handed mode. Furthermore, it supports multiple languages and comes with intuitive cursor movements. For instance, to delete a word, all you need to do is swipe on the backspace key. Similarly, for moving the cursor across, swipe left/right on the spacebar. Download Chrooma

4. AI Type Keyboard

The main focus of AI Type keyboard is that you should type correct and fast. The makers of this app claim that the app learns from your writing style to predict words and phrases. That’s the reason the app asks for your permission to access and read your messages. Other than that, it’s feature rich and supports a myriad of features including clipboard, shortcuts for long sentences and plenty of themes. Plus, you can also use the keyboard interface as a touchpad. What we feel is that the look and feel could have been better. The default layout has big and bulky keys. Though it’s great for someone who has big thumbs, but ends up looking a bit dated. Other than that, the AI Type Keyboard is a wonderful keyboard app.

5. Grammarly Keyboard

Are you someone who often makes typos or mistakes when typing in English? If yes, you should switch to the Grammarly Keyboard right away. This nifty app takes it upon itself to improve your writing skills by pointing out typos and embarrassing grammatical errors. Most of the errors and typos are corrected automatically. Besides that, you’ll find other keyboard characteristics like Auto-capitalization, dedicated number row, personal dictionary, emoji button and more. However, if you were to compare it with Hitap, you’d see that the features are a tad limited in this one. And well, that’s a compromise you have to make if you want to send out error-free messages and emails. Download Grammarly

6. Touchpal

Another fun keyboard to try is Touchpal with a lot of features such as a native clipboard, contact suggestions, themes, and more. Also, when given the right permissions, it turns out to be quite intuitive. All you need to do is type the relevant keywords, and you’ll be prompted with a suitable GIF or emoji. The only issue with Touchpal are the ads. Yes, keyboards also come with a small banner ad at the top which is kind of irritating. The ad-free version hides behind a paywall of $2 for a year.

7. Minuum Keyboard

Unlike the keyboards above, Minuum sports a unique interface and design. It comes with a configurable keyboard which can shrink with the letters arranged on top of the other. You can configure either one of the designs as per your convenience. But if you ask me, you should go for the smaller look, since it’s a welcome break from usual layouts. Plus, it also has the knack to take your mind for a spin with its quirky setting. Download Minuum

Type Like a Pro

What is the feature that a keyboard must have? Is it accurate text prediction, or a hand clipboard you are looking for? I’d love a keyboard that can predict words at the speed matching with my thoughts — fast. Too much to ask for? Well, it’s already 2019 and the time is now!
